Jimmy, Jimmy...

James McFadden returned to training on Sunday, alonmg with other long term casualty Nuno Valente.

And both turned out for the reserves as they beat Newcastle's second string 2-1 at the Halton Stadium on Tuesday night.

McFadden looks to be well on the road to recovery as he netted both Everton goals and saw another effort bounce back off the bar.

Buoyed by his 90 minute run out, the jinky Scot has now targeted a return to the Blues' first team to help with the final push towards European qualification.

McFadden said: "I didn't imagine that I would feel this good so soon, so it is up to the manager. We have got a lot of games coming up and hopefully I can get back in sooner rather than later, but I maybe need another couple of reserve games.

He added: "We have got this push for European football and hopefully I can be a part of that."

Although he'll do well to get in ahead of either Andy Johnson or James Vaughan he could slot in on the wing, or at least give Leon Osman some much needed competition on the right flank.
