Everton produced an impressive display to secure a 3-1 victory over Premier League rivals Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Wednesday evening.
The encounter provided both managers with an important opportunity to evaluate squad sharpness ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Everton established control in the first half through clinical finishing. Thierno Barry opened the scoring in the 27th minute before Iliman Ndiaye doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 36th minute.
New Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle made sweeping changes at the interval to assess his squad depth, but Everton added a third in the 73rd minute through Tyrique George.
Harvey Barnes pulled a goal back for Magpies in the 85th minute with a well-placed finish, but it proved to be only a late consolation.
