Comment: Everton on the road to nowhere

Last updated : 11 February 2004 By Sean Graham
After the way the team performed at Anfield on Saturday the Goodison Park faithful who Travelled to Loftus Road for this replay had a right to feel optimistic but Everton being Everton things always seem to work in the oppositions favour ! After all that has happened Between these clubs in recent season's you would have thought that Everton would this time Get a rub of the green against Fulham but it was not to be.A combination of bad luck and Poor finishing saw Everton again go crashing out of the Cup, unfortunately. Changes came and went with Radzinski hitting a post,Rooney missing a header with Van Der Sar Beaten,Kilbane shot somehow cleared by Volz,Davis shot well saved by Martyn, then Martyn again Was on hand to stop Hayles,Radzinski shooting just pasted the left hand post you could say That after a slow start this game was warming up nicely and a goal was coming...but unfortunately it was for the home side !With Fulham's Inamoto shooting past Martyn from Outside the box, this was not in my script. Everton would have to hit back and hit back they did,David Moyes brought on Franny Jeffers And Steve Watson to help fight for the cause, and they got their just rewards. The move to bring Franny Jeffers on worked a treat as he bravely headed the toffees level In the 90th minute and the tie was going to be won and lost in extra-time but again Unfortunately it was to be the home side that would be celebrating again but before then Jeffers missed a chance right in front of goal with Van Der Sar stranded indeed Franny Could have had a hat-trick if he was as good with his boots as he was with his head but That is how it goes, just ask Gerrard after Saturday !

The winner when it did come was scored by Malbranque and set up by the villain of the piece Boa Morte, who maybe should not have been on the park after a terrible tackle on Lee Carsley. Boa Morte will long be remembered by the Everton fans not just for his assists in both goals But for the accusations against Duncan Ferguson calling him a racist and maybe this was all A bit of psychological tactics on the part of Boa Morte and Fulham but it seemed to work. Big Dunc did not play,he may or may not have been injured but he was missed.

Maybe I am Misreading the situation maybe Dunc was injured, maybe he did say those things,if so then I apologise but the club took the decision not to play him to save him from the taunts of the Fulham supporters that bothered to turned up !Sick, maybe, twisted, don't think so,feel cheated Definatly,no more to say on the matter except..best of luck to Peter Grant and West Ham in the next round ! Up the Hammers-you know it makes sense ! I just feel for Bill Kenwright,David Moyes, the players and my pals who travelled all that way To see us cheated out of the Cup,it is unfair and not right and my remote control also-sorry !
