Comment: One away win, just one!

Last updated : 20 February 2004 By Sean Graham
After going out of the FA Cup,losing a seven goal thriller against Man.Utd then not putting Up any fight against Birmingham,Everton have had a week off to gather themselves together and think of this weeks match against Southampton, who themselves have lost their little Scottish terrier and ex-Aberdeen,Manchester United,Leeds and Scotland star,Gordon Strachan.

I would just like to say the wee man was a magician at Pittodrie playing a vital role In Aberdeen's great times of domination in the eighties and was a joy to watch for both The Dons and Scotland. He was a true star in my eyes, maybe not in the eyes of any interviewers but he was always a very passionate as a player and that also followed him into Management, I am sure that I speak for many of us fans in the world of football when I say he will be sadly missed in the dugout at St.Mary's and in dugouts throughout the Premiership, all the very best wee man, thanks for the memories! (He'll be back – Ed)

After watching Wales thrashing Scotland 4-0 it may be time to bring back some of the golden oldies ! Now back to the not so good ship Goodison, just what is happening to the Blues this season ? The luck has just not been with us this season if it is not injuries then it has been decisions that have not gone our way but I don't want to make the same old excuses time and Time again ! This club has gone from missing out on Europe on the last day, last season to being five points off the relegation battle-again,when will we learn?

I know that the Manager and the board say that Wayne Rooney is not for sale but how long can a player with his undoubted talent stay with an underachieving club ? It hurts me to say such a thing about Everton but that is what they have done this season and it frustrates me to see this.

They have a good Manager in David Moyes,a Chairman who is Blue through and through and a faithful, long suffering support that deserve a whole lot better than what they are having to watch this season. It may be taken out of David Moyes and Bill Kenwright hands if a massive bid Of £25 million comes in from the likes of Manchester United,Chelsea,Arsenal or Real Madrid and that would mean that our prised asset could walk, how would the team cope then?

But are we not Maybe putting too much on this young man's shoulders? He is a talented player make no bones about that but he needs talent and quality around about him then we would see an even better Wayne Rooney and an even better Everton ! The focus must now on St.Mary's and the match against Steve Wigley's Southampton, this is now A must win match, nothing less than three points will do.

Other News

* On the subject of Wayne Rooney again, this time the alleged bust up with a woman in a nightclub !He says he didn't do it and that is good enough for me! Why is it that when an Everton player makes the papers it is for the wrong reasons ? Big Dunc also comes into this category. If former players say he is not a racist and they are black players then I agree with them, no place for that sort of stuff in our game and I don't think the big man would stoop to that sort of thing.

*Possible good news on the Richard Wright front, the big keeper could be on his way back after his knee injury, good news indeed.

* Peter Clarke has been sent to Coventry on loan to team up with former assistant Manager Archie Knox and my old pal Eric Black, good luck to him.

* International Results,Wayne Rooney's England drew 1-1 with Portugal,
Kevin Kilbane's Republic drew with World Champs Brazil 0-0,
Thomas Gravesen's Denmark had a 1-0 win over Turkey,
Tobias Lindroth's Sweden lost 2-1 against Albania and ex-Everton favourite and
Wales Manager,Mark Hughes saw his team thrash Scotland 4-0 !!

No more said please, and we are playing Romania and a striker called Mutu next up,God help us! I will say thanks to all in Wales who paid tribute to two Scotland greats,Ally McLeod and Jock Stein, respect!

Before I go I would like to say to all who read this column please go and visit Austin's Marathon column (www.austinsmarathon.co.uk – Ed),it is for a very good cause so please give as much or as little as possible.
Best wishes Boss, but take it easy!
