King Kev on the Double

Last updated : 23 September 2002 By Austin Rathe
Everton came from a goal down to win their first Premiership home match of the season thanks to two goals from Kevin Campbell. David Moyes men had fell a goal behind in 11 minutes when Paul Gerrard failed to hold on to a Maccarone shot and Nemeth scored from close range. The Blues did not let this effect them and fought back in the 32nd minute when a Unsworth cross into the area finds Radzinski who's header came back off the post and King Kev was on hand to knock in the rebound,1-1 game on ! The Blues took the lead and effectively won the match when a corner from Gravesen was headed in at the near post by King Kev again!

This was the blues first win in front of their own fans this season and boy did they and their Manager David "King David " that should be, enjoy the fact that they beat a very good ‘Boro side. In summing up a good performance by the side who just have to keep getting results and improving week by week. Good team performance but Gerrard, Rooney and Campbell deserve special praise. Now to Villa Park for a PPV match live on Sky against a Villa team soundly beaten by their neighbours Birmingham 3-0.Villa will be licking their wounds after that result so beware this may be no easy match! Now to matters of an injury kind.

On loan Brazilian Rodrigo has cruciate knee damage and could be out for anything up to 6 month's, this is very bad news for the 26 year old and for the club. Rodrigo is only here on a 1 year loan deal and he was trying to win himself a permanent move to the club. Two things here, 1) I hope Rodrigo makes a full recovery and he does get the chance to play for the club again.
2) I hope that he does win a contract on his return.

Take it easy big man and I hope that we will see you in a blue shirt again soon. From players who are going to the treatment room to players coming back from it. The reserves take on Birmingham reserves tonight with some big names returning to the fold.

Wright, Chadwick, Naysmith, Watson, Carsley, Gemmill and Big Duncan Ferguson all expected to get a run out at some point tonight. I hope that everyone comes through the match without any problems and Big Dunc gets the first of many matches back in a Blue shirt!

Other news -The club have been drawn against Wrexham away in the Worthington Cup 2nd round on the 1st Oct 7.45 kick -off.

Two results from Europe this week....Valencia 2 Liverpool 0...sorry couldn't resist! Two Scottish results from Europe this week Aberdeen 0 Hertha Berlin 0 Zizkov 2 Rangers 0 not too good eh!

Still Celtic and Livingston have not entered the European area yet so they may save face for the Scots....... Before I go I would just like to say Happy Birthday to a special man, my Dad! Old John boy will be 60 years young on Sunday and no doubt the Viking will be quid's in with Dad and the lads there! I would just like to say in print, as he and Mick read my column every week, I hope you have a great day and an even better night and don't have too much to drink before I get back from Dundee!
Hope my Dad and all Evertonians round the world have a great weekend and Andrew and Tommy have a great trip to Scotland.
