Yo Ho Here comes Yobo.

Goodison Park seems to have been a busy place this past week, the Blues have completed the signing of Nigerian international Joseph Yobo subject to a work permit. The 21 year old is manager David Moyes first signing as Everton manager. The deal is one million pounds for the first year and this could reach five million if the club and Joseph extend the contract by a further four years think this is a great move by the club and the manager and if Joseph proves to be a success then hopefully he will extend for the further four years. The manager must be applauded in the way he has conducted this move,we could have said we will spend the five million that is required then that is it no more summer signings. The club have done the right thing by getting the player here atleast for a year and then see what happens, well done David Moyes and Everton Football Club I applaud you for your forward thinking and look forward to seeing Joseph in the Blue shirt once this work permit comes through.

The club has beaten the likes of Arsenal and Juventus to land Joseph so this proves we can compete with the top clubs for top players, well done and a very warm welcome to Joseph, save Your first goal till we play Liverpool !
The stories surrounding Everton at the moment concerning players that we are supposed to be after is frightening, the manager himself says he can be offered between 10-15 players a day !

One or two names have came up on a few occasions and two names that have been linked for a few weeks now are Mart Poom and Brian McBride. It seems the manager has been trying to get both players to Goodison Park but their prospective clubs aren't budging despite the persistence of David Moyes. The one thing you can see about the boss is that he is a patient man especially were Poom is concerned ! He is a clever man and will not just put all his eggs in one basket as we have now seen the club being linked with other goalkeepers including Richard Wright,Alex Manninger and Petr Chec but may I throw another name into the hat Anti Niemi of Hearts. He has been superb since leaving Rangers and was linked with Charlton last season.David is going for players that Everton can afford but also are big names who maybe are frustrated at other clubs and this could be a good thing for the club. This is a big season for everyone concerned with Everton Football Club and at last we have a man in place that knows the situation and knows who to deal with it and also most importantly has the backing and respect of both the fans and the players.
The other news is that the club have two other players lined up to arrive at Goodison in the near future. Both Chinese internationalist Li Tie and Brazilian forward Rodrigo will arrive at Goodison to let the club have a look at them.Rodrigo arrived on Monday night and the club will take a closer look at him over the next couple of weeks. He scored 12 goals in 20 games for Botafogo last season,he may be just what the club are needing. All this and the launch of the club's new kits, all three of them and new sponsor Keijan yes it has been quite a week down Goodison way !

The Yobo deal, work permit permitting ! and the new kits and sponsor has got me quite excited about the forthcoming season at Goodison I can't wait to see the Blues up in Scotland when they come up here for their friendly matches(we'll have all the stats on our opponents next week). The sponsors are a Chinese electronics company called Keijan and they have been described as a hi-tech enterprise group. The deal is said to be worth 1 million over the next two years and should be formally announced next week.

As I have said the club will have three new shirts with the new sponsor on them next season. The home kit which is blue shirt,(tight fitting-so I'll be buying the away one then!)with white shorts and blue socks. The away one is a white top with blue shorts and white socks and the third choice strip is all black again tight fitting. They all look very smart and it won't be out till theAugust 30th ,maybe they will do a buy one get one free offer !

The keeper's kits are as follows Home-turquoise top, navy shorts and navy socks with a turquoise trim Away-top slate with black strips, shorts the same colour and the socks are slate with a black trim. No doubt the club shop will do great business on that day !

Other Everton news is that Niclas Alexandersson is not going to WBA says Gary Megson because he is not interested !May Nic is not interested in leaving the people's club to take a step downward Gary !

Ex Everton number one has joined ex Everton legend Peter Reid at Sunderland after his spell in Turkey, welcome back Thomas don't save your best games for us !

Other Everton players in the news are Paul Gascoigne and Mark Hughes. The word is that Gazza could be heading for the MSL league in the United States, this is no surprise as he said he would love to play there one day so lets hope he gets his wish, all the best Gazza.

As for Mark Hughes he has announced his retirement to focus on being the full time Manager with Wales.Sparky has had a glittering career and has always been one of my Favorite players. In his career he has played for Manchester United,Chelsea, Everton and Southampton as well as Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Sparky won 72 caps for his country and various medals with United.
Championship, League and FA Cup and Cup Winners Cup and he recently won the Worthington Cup with Blackburn his last club. I would like to wish Mark happy Retirement and thanks for all the great memories.

Before I sign off I would like to say I was talking to ex Everton star Ian Wilson at Hampden on Sunday at a BT football tournement. He still has a great affection for the club as we were recalling the glory days at Goodison .He thinks the Everton job is a big job but with the right backing he can do well .Ian agreed with me that the years out of Europe have not helped the club and we have suffered ever since.

He told me that Everton should be a top six club and agreed with my statement
about winning the Worthington Cup this should be top of our list of things to
win next season-well it is a start.

Ian also said he still keeps in touch with another legend Kevin Sheedy and
sees him often .He finished his conversation talking about the great midfielder
who needs to cheer up and works for the BBC when he is not at his desk at
Sunderland,Peter Reid. He said he could not believe how good he was and
how Everton could do with someone like him now…can we get him on a
free from Sunderland David ?

Till next week then….
