Larissa explains it all

Larissa currently sit 10th in the Greek Super League, four places and two points above the relegation zone, after a 0-1 defeat at AEK on Saturday.

They are managed by George Donis, the former Blackburn midfielder, who must have wished his folks had called him Antony just so he could get all his mail sent to A. Donis.

Anyway, they finished last season in 11th position and qualified for the UEFA Cup through winning the Greek Cup.

They went into the final as underdogs but overcame the15 time winners, Panathinaikos, by two goals to one and the final whistle was greeted by loads of Stavros looking types smashing plates, downing Ouzo and singing 'We're all going on a European tour' …you can't beat a bit of racial stereotyping can you?

Speaking of which, if the Larissa fans are aware of Harry Enfield's take on scousers (the must have some sort of comedy gold channel over there) then they might turn up tonight expecting it to be one massive muzzy-off!

Last season's cup final victory was the second time they have lifted the trophy, and was made that bit sweeter by the fact that Panathinaikos have beaten them in their two other appearances in the final in 1982 and 1984.

They have also lifted the Greek title once, in 1988 when a threatened points deduction led to Larissa fans imposing road blocks and generally causing mayhem to ensure that the points stayed on the board and their team won the league.

Now why haven't we thought of that in the past?!

They are based in the Greek city of Larissa and were founded in 1964 when four teams from the region merged to form AEL 1964, which is their official name, so it's anyone's guess why we don't call them that as it sounds well better than Larissa.

They also play in Maroon and are nicknamed the Maroons so, if we get beaten tonight, expect the match reports to full of puns like, 'Everton have been left marooned at the bottom of Group A'…and I got it in first, so there!

Tickets are still on sale for the match but fans are urged to pick them up as early as possible and the box office closes at six tonight.

And, season ticket holders, don't forget to take your season card to get in... there's going to be murder outside the ground at five-to-eight tonight isn't there?!
