Ref watch…

Which isn't really a bad thing for Everton as the Blues have won four and
lost just two of the last six games he has refereed.

The most recent of these matches was this season's 2-0 win at Wigan when,
for the first time since the Latics got promoted, Everton came away with all
three points.

Joseph Yobo was the only Everton player booked in that match.

Other games of note that he has refereed over the last few season's include
the 1-0 win over Newcastle last season and the 3-2 win over Bolton in
2004/05.

The Bolton match was notable for Mr Webb allowing us to re-take a free kick
outside the area and then turning a blind eye as Alan Stubbs pushed the
entire wall out of the way for Gravesen to have a free shot at goal.

It's something that irks Bolton fans to this day and is usually brought up
when they have finished banging on about that goal at the Reebok in '97.

The Newcastle game is memorable for Mr Webb not sending Alan Shearer off
when he nearly garrotted David Weir with his elbow.

Obviously, this wasn't the first time that the not-so-genial Geordie had got
away with such an attack but it clearly showed a lack of bottle on Mr Webb's
behalf.

He has refereed four Villa matches this season and, bad news for Everton,
Villa have won both home matches that he has officiated in.

He was the man in the middle of their 2-0 wins over Blackburn and Newcastle.

The other two Villa matches he refereed were the 1-3 defeats at Man United
and Newcastle.

But the really bad statistic for the Blues is that Villa are in the midst of
a dreadful run that stretches back to when they beat us in November.

After claiming their only away of the season at Goodison, Villa have won
just two matches, a 2-0 home win over Watford and a 1-0 home victory against
West Ham.

And, with Villa now hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, this
is one that the Blues could really balls up!

But a win would take us back up to sixth and well on course for a UEFA Cup
spot.

Keep 'em crossed!
