Ref watch...Howard Webb

...but it must've had more to do with his shiny head than his refereeing abilities as there's no way that he's as bad a ref as that Italian ted!

So far this season Mr Webb has taken charge of 24 games, issuing 73 yellow and 2 red cards. This gives him a ratio of 3.13 cards per game, which is about average for a Premiership referee.

But he's been a bit of a lucky omen for the Blues over the past few seasons as we have won three and lost one of the four games he's taken charge of since 2003/04 season.

In addition, he's only booked three players during those four games so we shouldn't add to many more cautions to our poor disciplinary record this season.

His first Everton game was last season's 1-0 home win over Boro when Marcus Bent scored and Kevin Kilbane was booked.

He then refereed our 3-2 home win over Bolton when, as Trotters fans will not tire of telling you, he saw Okocha's encroachment on Gravesen's free kick but didn't see Alan Stubbs' shove on the wall when the kick was re-taken. Honestly, if they're not moaning about that they'll bleat on about that 'goal' in '97 at the Reebok. Why can't they just accept that they were one of three teams who were actually worse than us that season? They probably find that fact hard to come to terms with as we were really frickin awful that season!

Anyway, Mr Webb did spot an infringement by Alan Stubbs in the next Everton match he refereed as our wonky faced centre half was booked in the 90th minute of the 0-1 defeat at Charlton last December.

This season, he took charge of the 1-0 win over Newcastle when Beattie was booked for the Blues but he, somehow, missed Alan Shearer's blatant elbow on David Weir. Although he's not the first to have missed a violent foul by Shearer, he could well be the last as Newcastle's number nine has only got another five games to go before he retires. He'll probably then take to shoving and elbowing drunken stags and hens as they totter onto that mad boat/nightclub thing in Gateshead. It's hardly the Royal Iris is it?!

"Ref! Did you see the way he blatantly threw his throat into me elbow?"

Howard Webb has refereed more Tottenham games this season than any other referee as he has taken charge of six Spurs games so far. Tottenham have won two, lost two and drawn two of those games and had nine players booked and one sent off.

Michael Dawson will have to watch himself as he has collected two yellows and one red from Mr Webb this season as he was booked during Spurs' 0-1 defeat at Bolton, their 3-3 draw at Boro and sent off as they went down 0-1 at Fulham. So if Dawson gets booked don¹t expect us to lose this one. But then this is Everton v Spurs we¹re talking about so we¹ve always got to, at least, half expect a defeat!

But I can think of worse referees to be taking charge of the match so that's something at least!
