Ref watch...Mark Halsey

Last updated : 20 April 2006 By Les Roberts

If you can cast your mind back to the start of the month then you'll remember that Mr Halsey refereed the 2-2 draw with Sunderland. Although the result and the performance were dire, the ref actually did alright.

After getting about a hundred players booked in the previous match against the shite, we didn't pick up a single caution against
Sunderland.

And Mr Halsey is probably the only referee in the Premiership who hasn't sent off a player from either Everton or
Birmingham this season, as both teams have racked up 14 red cards between them.

Birmingham are a bit of weird team when it comes to cautions as, with 38 yellow cards, they've actually accumulated fewer cautions than any team in the division. But they have had seven players sent off, a record matched only by that bunch of hatchet men that lurch about in Everton shirts every weekend!

That's about all there is to say about Mr Halsey that wasn't said in the
Sunderland preview really. But whilst we're on the subject of referees, let's have a look at the one we had against Chelsea.

"Pile on!!!!!"

In a truly amazing decision, The FA's disciplinary commission has upheld Lee Carsley's red card. That means that Rob Styles must have decided not to take another look at the incident as he felt that the challenge on Drogba merited a dismissal. If that's the case then he must be the only person in the country who thinks that!

I understand that referees have a hard job and everything but they really don't help themselves with pig-headed decisions like this one!

Let's hope Mr Halsey keeps his cards close to his chest again at the weekend because we'll be running out of players if these mad red cards continue!
