All Brann

Tonight's opponent's are the current Norwegian champions, having lifted the Tippeligaen in November, their first championship trophy since 1963.

They hail from the city of Bergen but are not, and never have been, called Brann Bergen.

And they don't like to be called Brann Bergen as, apart from making them sound like some husk-based vegetarian patty-in-a-bun foodstuff, it simply isn't their name.

If you do call them Brann Bergen they are liable to get all shirty on you like Forest fans do when you refer to their club as Notts Forest.

They are, in fact, called SK Brann, and the SK stands for Sportsklubben and, unfortunately, not Seal Klubben.

They play at the aptly named Brann Stadion and their record attendance occured last season when they pulled in a crowd of 17,310.

Norwegian wouldn't...probably what our gaff in Kirkby will look like!

As always appears to be the case in Scandanavian countries, the beer is dead expensive with a pint costing upwards of £4.

So you can either cosy up to a local and hope to be invited back for some home brew, or just be thankful that it's a UEFA Cup game so you can't spunk your taxi fare home on some expensive ale in the ground.

Their local rivals are Fyllingen IL who play in the Norwegian second division, having been relegated in 1993.

Players of note include the former Leeds midfielder Erik Bakke, who is also, potentially, the only Norwegian Evertonian on the planet...imagine how miserable his playground days must have been?!

Also look out for Thorstein Helstad, Brann's star striker and 2007 player of the year, Scottish striker Robbie Winters and the amusingly named Knut Walde (below).
Knut's missus and alsatian are just out of shot!

Oh yeah, and Erland Oye, half of the Kings of Convenience also hails from Bergen.

no, that's not a disguise!
