Bye bye Biffa

And knowing Everton one of those clauses will have something to do with him winning 50 England caps whilst at Blades.

The deal was agreed between the two clubs earlier in the week and, despite interest from Blackburn, Beattie opted to drop a divison and join Bryan Robson's men.

It's unclear whether the deciding factor was that he got to carry on playing with Gary Naysmith...but I'd like to think that it was.

Despite the Blues losing £2 million on a player they signed for a then club record fee of £6 million in January 2005, I think most would agree that getting £4 million for Beattie is a great return.

He played just 58 games for Everton and scored 14 goals, 11 of which came in the 2005/06 season when he ended the campaign as the Blues' top scorer.

But a severe dip in form and confidence he netted just two penalties for Everton last season.

All credit to him though as, despite looking completely useless at times, he never moaned about being dropped and just got his head down and got on with things.

Even when he fell behind two teenagers in the pecking order...and there's not many players would show such dignity in that situation.

And I think this was appreciated by most Blues as no-one ever really got on his back and everyone really wanted him to do well.

But, it wasn't to be and we never did get to witness one of those mad screamers he used to rattle in for Southampton.

Hopefully the Bramall Lane faithful will see a few of them!

Now, what are we going to with that £4 million...what do mean we've already spent it on Jagielka?!
