Cahill keen to maintain scoring form

The 31-year-old midfielder has been enjoying some of the best form of his Toffees career this season and is the club's top scorer with nine goals to his name.

Cahill is well on the way to beating his previous best tally of 11 goals for the club and, understandably, Moyes was reluctant to be without his services for up to a month, also risking potential injury while playing for Australia.

The former Millwall star grabbed two goals as the Socceroos eased to a 4-0 win over India in their opening Asian Cup game and he is hopeful he can maintain his goalscoring form for the remainder of the tournament and beyond.

Cahill told Press Association Sport: "I want to leave this tournament the same way I came in to make sure I have every chance of finishing the season strongly.

"The biggest thing for me is that I have done well for Everton at the start of this season and I have come here to make sure I keep myself fit and raring to go and play great football. I am not one that likes to sit on the bench or laze about, I want to work hard while I am here and try and do something special for my country and go back to Everton and continue to play well."
