Moyes felt that Chadwick's second goal for the club was the turning point; the young striker came of the bench and set Everton off with a deft finish. Duncan Ferguson later added a second to earn us a point Moyes said: "It was great for Chaddy, although I don't know if it was inspired. It was just great for the young lad to come on and get that goal.

"We needed a Johnny on the spot to get us a goal from somewhere and he was the one today because that really got us going."

Ferguson went out with a goal.
Duncan Ferguson also leapt into the manager's good books, the big Scot scored in his last game before a three-match ban. Moyes added: "That's four goals in six games and that's a decent return for most centre-forwards, especially for one who has missed so much football.

"I was disappointed with the start we made and I thought we were lethargic. Our decision making, whether to pass it, clear it or anything was poor in the first half. I could hardly believe some of the things they were getting up to in the first half and the goals were calamities.

"I thought we were lucky to go in only 2-0 down. I said some strong things, but the players were strong too at half time and more importantly they were strong in the second half.
