Down with the kids!

The former Chelsea chairman claims that Everton should face similar sanctions to those placed on the London club if they do not properly compensate Leeds for taking their promising defender Luke Garbutt to Goodison.

The England under-17 captain has been part of the Leeds set up since he was 11 but was recently 'poached' by the Blues according to Bates.

The two clubs are to attend a tribunal on Monday which should sort out suitable compensation for the Yorkshire club.

Bates said: "I hope the ruling that has been handed down from FIFA on Chelsea will set the scene. It certainly sends a message to the Football League compensation tribunal about compensation."

He added: "I'm not just talking about Leeds. Lots of smaller clubs than us have been stripped of their best kids and they should be adequately compensated."

His anger is understandable, we all felt it when the fat lad defected, but the setting of an adequate fee is down to the tribunal and not Everton so it's unfair to suggest that Everton have been underhanded in their dealings.

It appears to be a similar situation to the one Everton faced in the summer regarding the signing of Shkrodan Mustafi from Hamburg when the matter was resolved via a FIFA tribunal.
