Everton get stadium funding

Everton will be paying £30m themselves with a further £35m coming from a variety of private sources.

A statement by Everton yesterday said: "Everton Football Club has now made what will come to represent its final submission to Liverpool Vision with regard to the proposed King's Waterfront project. Whilst Everton's status as preferred developer for the site was not extended beyond the December 31 2002 deadline, it was always our understanding that, by way of a gentleman's agreement, we had until March 31 2003 to show that our funding requirement was in place. This we have now done. We now await the observations of Liverpool Vision."

The project should now move quite quickly onto the planning stages, with season 2005/2006 being the target opening date, although I would bank on that changing at least once.
