Lescott's landed!

We've signed the 23-year-old centre half on a four year deal for an undisclosed fee.

That probably means we've given Wolves an upfront payment of a bag of balloons and, when he reaches 100 appearances or something, we'll throw in squirty flower and a bucket of glitter.

Apparently, the deal is worth up to £5million for the midlands club but, if we take into account our previous form in these 'appearance based' deals, then it's doubtful that Lescott will fulfill the required number of games and Wolves will be left with egg on their face...or a big custard pie...or something!

Lescott should prove to be a good signing though as he is an ace defender and, at just 23, he brings the average age of our defence down considerably!

His signing also shows that the board appear to be getting their act together and, for once, the club can't really be faulted for the way in which the last two transfers have gone through. And they've broken two club records in the process as Johnson is our record signing and Lescott could turn out to be our record defensive signing...not taking Kroldrup into account like!

In other news, Nuno Valente has refuted claims that he wants to move on to 'a more ambitious' club and insists that he is happy at Everton.

Which is good news as it would be a bit churlish of him to suggest that Everton aren't as ambitious as any other club at the moment, especially as we've just spent about £14 million on two players.

Another player who is apparently loving life at Everton is James McFadden. Although he still hasn't signed a new deal his agent insists that he's well happy and will be talking with Moysey this week to sort out a new deal.

So it appears that all is well on the good ship Everton at the moment, which is very unusual but it definitely makes a nice change!
