Magic Johnson

It looks like Mark Hughes has had enough of just about everyone on the playing staff at Eastlands and is going to have a clearout this month.

And, thankfully, Everton look to have resisted the temptation to go for wasters like Jo and Elano, a player that desreves to be sold purely for those bad corn rows, and are looking towards the altogether better prospect of Michael Johnson.

The 20-year-old looked mustard when he broke into the Man City team and was one of those players that used to be on our books and was due to be filed in the 'how-did-we-let-him-slip-through-the-net' drawer along with McManaman, Fowler...er...Barton et al!

But, true to form, Everton will be looking to sign the midfielder on loan until the end of the season before hitting City with some complicated payment plan to tempt them to sell him to us.

And, though we're not really in need of midfielders, Johnson is a great young player who would only add to the overall quality of the squad.

Any deal could be scuppered by Man City's courting of West Ham's overpaid and overrated midfield man Scott Parker and they may use Johnson as a make-weight in any deal.

But should the Blues be successful in securing the services of Johnson for the remainder of the season just watch those 'Arteta-to-Arsenal' rumours go through the roof!
