McLeod stall on contract offer

Last updated : 03 June 2003 By Austin Rathe
McLeod, a highly rated left footed player, is now a free agent after his last deal expired. However, Everton are keen for him to stay. Dunford said: "Kevin has been offered a new one-year contract and he received notification of that a few weeks ago.

"David Moyes would ideally like him to stay, but Kevin, being a free agent, can look at his other options to see if his career is best placed elsewhere."

Recently, McLeod said: "I've been at Everton since I was nine, but there are two or three people in front of me for the first team and both Mark Pembridge and Gary Naysmith are full internationals.

"I have been offered another contract by Everton but my agent says there are other clubs interested.

"I have spoken to Everton about how long they want to keep me and they said it will be fine for me to go away and think about it in the summer."

McLeod spent a good part of last season away on loan, so it looks like he wants more first team football than Everton can offer.
