But Moyes said: “Li Tie has played very well, he can see a pass and is controlled in possession. It has taken him a while to get up to the speed of the games and towards the end he has faded away a little, but that’s because of the pace and speed of the game in the Premiership.

“At the moment his communication is not good because of the language problem, but he’s doing well with the ball when he gets it.”

Moyes added: “We were apprehensive about someone coming from another continent and how long it will be before he settles.

“And we have a lot of central midfield players who have a good claim on the jersey, so those were the problems.

“But he was the one in the Chinese side who I felt could make an impact. I didn’t know how quickly it would happen or even if it would happen. But he has come in, settled, and done very well.”
