New boots and arteries

The Blues' young striker was stretchered off during yesterday's 1-1 draw
with Bolton after a clash with Abdoulaye Meite left him with a severed
artery in his foot.

Vaughan's foot appeared to catch the bottom of the Bolton defender's boot,
and the injury should surely raise concerns over the use of blades, as
opposed to studs, on the bottom of players' boots.

He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital and underwent a series of scans, which
have, thankfully, shown that there has been no damage to any bones or
ligaments.

He has been released this morning and doctors have assured the player that
there shouldn't be any lasting damage and he just needs to keep his foot
elevated to aid his recovery.

But, due to the nature of the injury, no-one really seems to know how long
he will be out for, but that should be determined within the next 24-48
hours.

If Vaughan is ruled out for any length of time it will be a massive blow to
both club and player as he has arguably been our man of the match in each of the three games he has started.

And, with Victor Anichebe also ruled out through injury, the Blues' striking
options are looking limited for the final run-in.

But another Everton striker had a better bank holiday Monday as Lucas
Jutkiewicz was again on the scoresheet for Swindon.

The young forward, who will sign for the Blues in the summer, netted a late
winner for the Robins as they beat Torquay 2-1.
