Paul Jewell backs Moyes for revival (Wigan Preview)

“This game is mad, isn’t it?” Wigan boss Jewell said. “David was named manager of the year last season and now people are talking about him being under pressure. It’s still early days, they’ve not started well, but you don’t get into the Champions League if you’re not a good team.

“They’ve had some injuries and maybe a few of their players aren’t on top form but I’m sure that come the business end of the season they’ll be up there again.”

Wigan gome to Goodison Park tomorrow seeking to build on their good start to the season. Tipped for relegation by just about everyone, Wigan have shown great spirit so far.

We on the other hand have shown anything but good spirit, and this game is hugely important despite what anyone in the camp says.

Everton may have Andy van der Meyde on the bench, although this is thought unlikely. Per Kroldrup, James Beattie, Gary Naysmith and Lee Carsley all look set to miss out.

This will almost certainly leave David Moyes picking the same team that started against Arsenal on Monday, with the attacking James McFadden surely retaining his place in a game that Everton have to win.

Doubt remain over the ability and fitness of Nuno Valente, with Matteo Ferrari perhaps given another chance at left back, with either Leon Osman or Simon Davies playing on the wide right of the 5 man midfield. David Weir will probably keep his place, despite some shocking performances and a complete inability

Doubts also remain regarding the fitness of Tim Cahill. David Moyes has publicly discussed resting the player, but that will be difficult without cover, and given his ability to score vital goals. However, if Cahill were rested, Lenon Osman would step into a more central role alongside Mikeal Arteta and Phil Neville.
