Pienaar's permit

The South African midfielder has flown over to Germany to collect his visa after work permit restrictions stopped him from playing in Wednesday night's 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen.

And Everton's assistant manager, Alan Irvine, is hopeful that his clearance to play will be sorted out today.

Irvine said of Pienaar's trip to Germany: "That will hopefully mean he will have his Visa by the afternoon. He will then fly back in time to travel out with us but that is all subject to getting the correct documentation."

And the Blues second in command is sure that Pienaar's attack minded approach will make him a hit with the fans.

Irvine said of the South African: "Steven is a very good footballer - lively and aware. He is very good technically. The fans will enjoy watching him play and he is certainly somebody I am looking forward to having round here and working with."

But he also waxed lyrical about the fact that he is a player very much in the Ajax mould...but then wasn't Andy van der Meyde?!
