Rooney was rumored to be called up for an England under 20 tournament but the FA has assured David Moyes that this will not be the case.

Everton PR man Ian Ross said: "Les Reed (acting technical director) of the FA has been in contact with our manager David Moyes, and has now made it clear that the FA has no intention of including Wayne Rooney for the tournament in March.

"For the club, that is mercifully the end of the matter. I don't think there was any doubt it would be resolve amicably.

"It has been mainly newspaper talk and anything to do with Wayne Rooney is news at the moment so we were expecting it.

"We had always had assurances from the FA that they would look sympathetically at any case involving us, and presumably any other youngster who is in a Premiership first team.

"We are very pleased with the outcome. We haven't fallen out with the FA and I'm sure our fans will be delighted Wayne is available for our games in March."
