Round- No extra spice in derby clash

A number of players away on international duty means preparations for the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park a week on Sunday are restricted.

But that does not stop the anticipation building already for a clash which has taken on even more significance considering the two teams' Premier League positions, with Everton 17th and their near neighbours one place below.

"I do feel the Merseyside derby has that bit extra than any other derby, there is something really very special about it," Round told the club's website.

"From a coaching perspective you have to stay calm and be professional and it is very difficult sometimes in the atmosphere of a derby.

"But it is very important you try to stay free from the emotion and concentrate on doing your job and making sure you do everything you can to get the result.

"It is a strange one this time in that both teams are in false positions in the league and I think you will see that as the season unfolds.

"But it doesn't matter whether you are 17th and 18th or fighting for top spot, it is the derby. It is bragging rights and the importance of the game will never change, regardless of the status of both clubs."

While everyone at Everton is focused on the coming derby, captain Phil Neville is looking even longer term as he is targeting a lengthy career in management when he quits playing.

"I'm getting to the age now where I have to start looking at the next chapter of my life," said the 33-year-old, who worked under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United before moving to Everton under the guidance of David Moyes.

"As players you've been doing one job for so many years, and you've got another 35 years to do another, and for me that means going into coaching and management.

"Just because you've had a great career doesn't mean you will be a great manager.

"The advice I have been given is to start at the very bottom and learn everything you can, and see where that takes you.

"I've been fortunate to work with some unbelievable managers and gained some great football experience myself.

"The challenge is to get across everything you've learned to your team.

"Hopefully that is the challenge for the next 30 years."
