Sean Graham's month in view

Last updated : 08 April 2005 By Sean Graham

Well once again it is time for my monthly look back at the happening at Everton Football Club and the world in general, and since my last article and quite a lot has happened.

Dirty Den has been bumped off, Tommy Harris has been bumped off, Edith beat Kim in the final of Fame Academy for Red Nose Day but charity was the overall winner, and last but no means least my favorite TV pro gramme is back on our screens, Doctor Who!

Down at Goodison Everton have been appearing in a soap opera of their own in the drama that is the Premiership and their continued chase for 4th spot and the Champions League riches that
go with it.

Since I last penned an Everton article Everton have hit the high's and low's. In Birmingham Everton had possibly their best away performance for some years with a great performance against Aston Villa in a 3-1 win but their spirit's were dampened when we read in the newspapers that new signing
James Beattie was involved in a punch up outside a nightclub in Birmingham, not his fault I may add! James was just defending his girlfriend when the thug assaulted him and although James was shaken he was not badly hurt, thank goodness. James will just have to watch were he goes out in future just as our former hero Wayne Rooney has found out to his cost recently!

After the high's of the win at Villa Park the Blues came crashing down to earth with two defeats first of all at home to Blackburn 1-0 and away at Anfield in the second Merseyside derby of the season losing 2-1. Everton just never got going in both those matches, in fact they looked really
tired and this is worrying for the remainder of the season as the squad looks really thin as we go in to the most important part of the season as they try to get European football back to Goodison for the first time in ten years.

The club has missed out on some really big European nights and a club such as Everton needs European football and all the money that goes with it if they want to attract more big name stars to the club.

David Moyes is worried that Tim Cahill will suffer from a burn out with the amount of matches that he will have to play with both Everton and Australia. Both Tim and Marcus Bent looked full of running and energy at the start of the season but as the month's have pasted both have looked really
jaded but have still managed to play well.

After the Liverpool defeat the clubs have had time to regroup and rest unless you have International duty. Speaking of which Scotland had their first match under new management with ex-Everton boss Walter Smith taking charge for the match against Italy despite playing well they lost 2-0 which is no bad thing but maybe this performance is cause for optimism for the Scottish fans....we live in
hope! Both Gary Naysmith and comeback King David Weir played as part of the Scottish team and Weir was voted Man Of The Match by BBC Scotland Co Commentator Ian McCall (the former Dundee United Manager), well done to Davie but I just wished he would have got on the score sheet to mark his comeback....and I had him for first goal at 80/1!

The next match Ill be seeing is on the 20th April, Everton v Manchester United under the floodlights at Goodison Park!

I am making the long road down to this match with my friend John to not only catch up with my mates Andy, Tommy B and Tommy S but to see if Everton can beat one of the biggest names in not only the English but European game. It is a match that I have been looking forward to for ages as it is part of my Birthday treat (37 on March 30th for those interested! )and I know that John and I will have a great time, it should be a great game. I will of course give you all a full report in the final Everton-Mad article next month. Take Care till next month !
