Which could be bad news for all the doom and gloom Toffeeweb types who were convinced that the pair were going to be off to Man United or West Ham or somehwere this summer.

I say could be bad news as, obviously, either player can still do one at any given moment.

But, with a little extra cash in their arse pockets and the prospect of European football next season, it's not likely that either will be off any time soon.

Bill Kenwright tied up the deals and came out of his little hideaway in the main stand, which must smell of grease paint and dry ice, to tell us how delighted all parties were.

Kenwright said: "David Moyes and myself were keen to get these important extensions wrapped up before the new season opens. We did it in the Everton Way - quietly, efficiently and away from the glare of the spotlight."

He added: "Negotiations have been ongoing for several weeks and have now been satisfactorily concluded ancd I know the two lads are as happy as we are."

The squad returns to pre-season on Monday so expect some grumblings of discontent have we not secured the services of Phil Jagielka, David Nugent, Jason Koumas, Riquelme and Julio Geordio by dinner time on Tuesday!
