There's not much to add to that other than the goal was scored by Didier Crettenand in the 58th minute after he played a 'neat one-two to open up the Everton defence' - to quote the match report on the official site.

The most worrying thing about that statement is that the Everton defence was the only recognizable unit from last season's squad with Valente, Jagielka and Lescott all playing in the back four.

The team was actually that depleted that Phil Neville played in midfield, Moyes can knock that idea in the head right now, and Andy van de Meyde also started so expect the usual stories of how he's having a good pre-season, is really knuckling down and, say it quietly, this is going to be his year...

Moyes has obviously taken all the positives he can from the game citing the fact that some young players gained some valuable first team experience but, looking at the starting line-up, it seemed more like some first teamers getting youth team experience!

New assistant to the manager, Steve Round, also threw in some completely irrelevant comments on the game that can be poured over on the official site.

In other news, the kit launch has been delayed until July 24th due to 'circumstances beyond the control of Everton Football Club' which is probably a diplomatic way of the club saying that it's Umbro's and JJB's fault…because they're both last!

Er…what else…transfers…we're looking at signing Sporting Lisbon's 24-year-old 'keeper Vladimir Stojkovic on a season long loan
Real Madrid are sniffing around Swiss winger Stephane Lichsteiner and so Everton are thinking of tabling a completely meaningless bid…Sky Sports are going with the story that we're looking to 'hijack' Gilberto Silva's move from Arsenal to Panathinaikos, Steve Round has donned his balaclava and Che Guevara t-shirt and has got the engine running on his Triumph bike in preparation for said hijack...and Argentinian grock Milito isn't going to Genoa so Moyes is 'monitoring' the situation…

Meanwhile, the managers of all the teams that finished in the bottom half of the table last season are using their monitors to watch clips of Andy Johnson running towards various corner flags last season.

Then, when they're happy that he can 'run the channels' really well but will never get another spot kick in his career, they can text Moyes with bid that's well below the £8.5 million we paid for the striker as his transfer from Everton has clearly become one of those reverse auctions.

Keep it here for more news ages after it actually happens…
