Smith eyes Hearts' defender

Smith's knowledge of Scottish football has given Everton some good buy's over the last coupld of years, David Weir for £200,000 being perhaps the best bargain of the lot.

Webster played for Arbroath before being plucked from obscurity and into the Scottish Premier League in march last year. Webster would be an obvious replacement for the recently departed Abel Xavier.

The 19 year old defender has played 24 times for Hearts, scoring one goal, and is tipped for international honours from Scotland in the non too distant future.
