So, Would Moyes sell rooney for £50m?

Last updated : 22 June 2004 By Austin Rathe
Moyes is known to value Rooney immensly, and he knows that their two respective futures depend upon each other to a large extent. It is therefore interesting to hear exactly what Moyes thinks about the possibility of selling the boy wonder. Here is the word from the man himself.

"I think if somebody came in with £50m, everybody in the country would be saying that we'd be right to take it because I think that's a big offer.

"One of the things I said when I came to this club is: 'I don't want to sell my best players, and as far as I am concerned, we're not in the business of selling, but I'd be lying if I said that there wasn't a price on everybody's head - there is.

"But I can only say that we've got no intentions of selling Wayne just now unless I get told by the board that we have to or unless Wayne tells me that he doesn't want to play for Everton Football Club anymore. But we haven't had any offers from anyone, so it's just speculation. It just seems that everyone else wants to talk about it. It's as though there's nothing else to talk about apart from Wayne Rooney.

"I think his performances have been exceptional - and people have been right to talk about his performances, but I have heard some very senior members of the press making some very stupid comments as well."

Look on the bright side, we can't really lose can we?
