Weir and Watson fighing fit

The news that David Weir and Steve Watson should both be available shortly after christmas is very important to the Everton boss.

Weir has been our since September, but will start training again soon. "We're expecting the consultant will give David the all-clear to resume light training later in the week," Everton physio Mick Rathbone is quoted as saying.

On the subject of Watson, who declared himself fit for the game against Portsmouth, and then left after 24 minutes, he said "Steve just felt a bit of stiffness in his thigh in the latter part of the warm-up. We don't know why it happened, but after about 20 minutes of the game it was getting progressively worse, so we decided to take him off as a precaution.

"It doesn't look particularly serious. It looks as though he's got a minor thigh strain."

So then, both back by the new year? I hope so.
