Wyness and Grine

So says the short but, nonetheless, to the point statement on the official site.

There's no reason given as to why our bulldog-chewing-a-wasp-faced chief executive has resigned but the suggestion in the local press is that he has been head-hunted to take on a similar role at Real Mallorca.

Other rumours doing the rounds are that he's jumped ship over the Destination Kirkby debacle (I think it's fair to call it a debacle now) or simply that Philip Green, who could quickly become the shadowy Dr Claw figure at Goodison, has told him to step down.

Wyness has come in for some stick since he began his tenure at Goodison back in 2004 but the position of chief executive does appear to be a thankless, if well paid, one.

But, it's fair to say, that he has spoken out of turn on a number of occasions and has released statements that have, at best, patronised Everton fans.

But, with two weeks to go until the start of the season, the timing of the whole thing has left the club in the lurch as there are a lot of deals that need to be sorted out that he would have directly had a hand in!

And that's before we get to David Moyes renewing his contract…the whole situation being reminiscent of the BBC Chief Executive dying just before he signs Alan Partridge¹s new million pound television deal!

Whatever the reason for his departure, that, coupled with the Moyes situation and the fact that we¹ve signed no new players, will have people labelling us a crisis club before you can say Toffeeweb.
