Tiger time

It'd generally only last about ten minutes though before it degenerated into a game of togger.

Anyway, the point of all that was a lead into an article about Everton's finest non-footballing team, the Everton Tigers.

For those of you not in the know, the Everton Tigers started life as the Toxteh Tigers back in 1968 and linked up with Everton FC ten years ago as part of the Everton in the Community initiative.

Then, in June 2007 the two clubs joined forces to form the Everton Tigers and joined the British Basketball League (BBL) as a professional team.

Their first season saw them finish in seventh spot and they pulled in a record crowd of 6,000 when they took on local rivals, Chester Jets, at the Echo Arena.

The Tigers currentl play at the 600 capacity Greenbank Sports Academy in Sefton Park but it's believed that their long term goal is to move to the Echo Arena...so at least one Everton team would have a home at the King's Dock!

This season has seen Great Britain assistant coach Tony Garbelotto take over team matters and the Tigers have gone from strength to strength having won 18 of their 22 matches.

The next match is this Friday, February 6th, at home to the Sheffield Sharks, a team the Tigers have played twice and beaten twice already this season.

So get down to Sefton Park this Friday night, any chance to cheer on a successful Everton team, regardless of the sport, has got to be worth it!

GOOOOOOAL!!!!!!!
