Can you hear the drums Fernandes? (reprise)

The Portuguese midfielder is due at Goodison today to discuss the deal and will, presumably, feel a bit of a plum given the way he strung us along in the summer.

That's assuming that he has any feelings of humilty which, given the fact that he's a young international footballer, he probably doesn't.

But even though he turned out to be a bit of a snide, he certainly added to our midfield last season, holding the ball up well and very rarely giving away possession.

He'll probably be best remembered for the rocket he scored in the, ultimately, ill-fated game against Man United, but I'd suggest that his best moment in an Everton shirt came against Arsenal when, with one turn, he left three Arsenal players on their, er, arses!

For many though, the jury is still out on Fernandes and Graeme Sharp was saying, on the irritating Century phone-in, that he didn't think that Fernandes was 'the real deal'...whatever that means!

But our attacking shortcomings have been chronically exposed over the last two games so the addition of another ball player will do our midfield no harm whatsoever.

And Fernandes will, at least temporarily, fill the void left by Pienaar's departure for the African Nations Cup.

In other transfer news that could directly affect us, Chelsea are looking at spunking £15 million on Nicolas Anelka, is he officially a 'want away striker' yet, and, such is our luck, he'll be eligible to play in the semi-final second leg as Bolton didn't use him in either of their Carling Cup games this term.

And, is it just me, or does anyone else think that Avram Grant is a ringer for Darth Vader when Luke pulls his helmet off (oo-er, carry on up the jedi) at the end of Return of the Jedi?
