Everyone's got their price...

According to reports Everton are ready to accept a bid of £24 million for Joleon Lescott.

Mark Hughes has revealed (that makes a change eh?!) that the two clubs are currently in talks to take the Everton defender to Eastlands.

Hughes said: My understanding before the game was that the clubs are speaking."

The gobshite added: "I would suggest that is a positive sign, although whether or not anything is concluded only time will tell."

The writing has been on the wall long before Lescott was dropped from the squad and his reluctance tom play against Arsenal was surely the final straw.

This was confirmed by David Moyes who said: "Joleon had told me on the Friday when he came in that he didn't want to play but I had no options and few choices so I chose to ignore it and play him but in the end it worked against me so I've taken the decision."

City first enquired about the defender in the January transfer window and they have been relentless in their efforts to sign him ever since.

David Moyes has played this one perfectly as he knew all along, especially since John Terry turned down a move to City, that Everton held all the cards in this deal.

And £24 million is a great return on a player signed for £5 million just three years ago.

The fee is thought to include add ons but surely Everton's deal brokers aren't stupid enough to include top-up payments based on City actually winning anything!

On the downside, Lescott's quality as a player cannot be underestimated as he has been a star player for the Blues since he signed, weighing in with some great performances and his fair share of goals.

But the whole sorry saga looks like it's, thankfully, coming to a close.

Hopefully the business can be conducted quickly and Everton can now get on with signing some players!

In related news, Ever Banega has had a work permit acceptea and Everton are hopeful of completing his signing, on loan for a year, early next week.

In a weird twist though, Banega's current club, Valencia, have denied holding any talks with Everton over a loan deal for the player.

It looks like one saga couls be beginning just as another is coming to an end!
