Get Back!

Donovan is back at Galaxy and has joined up with the squad as they prepare for the new MLS season that is due to kick off on March 25.

However, the MLS Players' union has voted to strike if their new labour conditions are not met and this would mean that the start of the season would be postponed.

If that were the case then the MLs would most likely allow Donovan to return to Everton as the last thing they will want is their captain not playing any competitive football during the run up to the World Cup.

Donovan has said of the situation: "There's nothing concrete set up," Donovan said. "I think we've all been very clear about the possibility that I could go back if something happens. It's crossing that bridge when we get to it, right now."

He added: "Nobody wants to go on strike if it can be avoided. We've made it very clear from the beginning that we're not trying to bankrupt the league and ask for tons of monetary increases. But we need basic rights if we're going to continue playing. We want rights afforded other players in other countries that we don't have. We're very unified on the way we think."

And it's hardly going to help the MLS that Donovan has just spent three months playing in the richest league in the world and has outperformed some of the richest players in the world!

But his Galaxy  team mates seem to be more concerned about Donovan's colouring rather than the threat of imminent strike action.

Galaxy midfielder Chris Klein (how his parents resisted calling him Calvin is anyone's guess!) has said: "We're tanned and ready to go, and he looks like he's been hiding in a closet for a few months."

Which suggests that a strict tanning routine is part of the Galaxy's pre-season preparations!

So if Everton do harbour any hopes of signing Donovan on a long term contract after the World Cup, David Moyes had better get a 6-week course at Boss Tans sorted for September!
