Moyes out!

Last updated : 17 November 2009 By Les Roberts

As soon as the news broke that George Burley had been relieved of his duties as Scotland manager there was a certain inevitability that David Moyes would be linked with the vacant post.

And so it came to pass with none other than former Everton player Mo Johnston leading the campaign to get Moyes the top job in Scotland.

Johnston, now Director of Football at MLS side Toronto FC - no predatorial suffix for those bobcats - said: "If you're looking for a new coach David Moyes fits the bill. He's done a hell of a job."

But he then goes on to say that if Graeme Souness is out there - that fella is nothing if not 'out there' - then he'd be 100 per cent behind that appointment.

When searching for a picture of Johnston in his Everton days I stumbled across this beauty from the striker in his days as a player under Souness at Rangers...it's like a Scottish Crockett and Tubbs!

Anyway, where's this non-story going...?

It's unlikely that Moyes would take the job as an international coach at this stage in his career as he'd probably 'miss the day-to-day involvement with the players.'

It is possible that he could take it on a part-time basis though, Alex Ferguson did at a similar stage in his managerial career, but this would place even more pressure on him and can you imagine the ammunition it would give to the Moyes-out brigade?

Alan Jackson's ears would be bleeding!
