Transfer talk

With more than a slight air of inevitibilty the first name to be mentioned is that of Joao Moutinho.

And on the back of the two Europa League games we played against his current club, Sporting Lisbon, the name of Yannick Djalo has also been thrown in for good measure.

Following the two ties against Sporting Everton CEO, Robert Elstone, said of Moutinho: "We are always looking for good new players and we saw first hand how exceptional Moutinho is and he showed all his quality."

Admittedly, it's hardly a statement of intent but it does suggest that this could the third successive summer that we've flirted with the Portuguese midfielder.

Another name in the mix is that of West Brom's Graeme Dorrans.

The 23-year-old Scottish midfielder has scored 13 times for the Baggies this season and is said to be 'highly rated'.

Which generally means that he looks quite good but no one can really be sure if he'll ever be as good as the £10 million price tag that West Brom will place on him would suggest.

Back to the continent and we're also said to be 'tracking' Malaga midfielder Dani Toribio.

The 21-year-old has been a revelation since leaving Barcelona for Malaga and has 'caught the eye' of  'a host of clubs across Europe'.

Which at least ensures that the transfer-rumour-cliche-o-meter is ticking along nicely!

In other non-transfer related news the eagerly anticipated Man City away game has been rescheduled for Wednesday March 24th...which also happens to be my birthday...lovely.

Incidentally, the last time we played on that date was also a Wednesday night and we webbed Ipswich 3-0 at home.

It was during the memorable (!) 1992/93 season and goals from Stuart Barlow, Matt Jackson and Tony Cottee sealed the win for the Blues.

The pick of the goals was Stuart Barlow's opener, a chest and volley from the edge of the box down at the Street End...no, really!
