You are not a loan

Everton are thought to be preparing to let the young striker go out on loan to get some match practice under his belt as his opportunites at Goodison this season have been limited to just 8 minutes of first team football.

That wasduring the 4-0 home win over Sigma Olomouc when he came on as an 82nd minute substitute for Steven Pienaar.

He was then sidelined with a minor recurrence of the knee injury that has blighted his career so far but came through a full 90  minutes of football as the reserves were beaten 0-2 by Hull on Monday night.

But David Moyes now concedes that the player needs to get back into competitive football before he can consider picking him for the first team, and this may be via a loan to Middlesbrough.

Moyes said: "We think it would benefit him to get some games under his belt. We have not been able to do that for the boy and he has missed a lot of football, so we wouldn't be opposed to it [Vaughan going out on loan]"

Hopefully, should Vaughan go out on loan, he will return to Everton and command the first team place we've all felt he's destined for since becoming the Premier League's youngest ever scorer when he netted in the 4-0 home win over Crystal Palace in April 2005.

Since coming on as a 74th minute substitute for Gary Naysmith in that game Vaughan has made just 10 starts for the first team.

A worrying statistic, and one that shows just how much his career has been hampered, actually devastated, by injuries.

But the boy has a lot of character and a lot of fight, as shown during two matches against Man United.

The first came during the 2-4 defeat at Goodison when he punched, kicked and harried Gabriel Heinze to the extent that, with the Argentinian thrown right off his game by the youngster, Alex Ferguson leapt off the bench demanding that he get booked after an innocuous challenge on the half way line.

The referee did as he was told, the edge then went from Vaughan's performance and Man United went on to win 2-4.

I honestly think that defeat had as much to do with Vaughan's booking as it did Iain Turner dropping that corner to allow John O'Shea to pull their first goal back!

The second example was his taking of a penalty in the semi-final shoot out against Man United in last season.

Balls bigger than King Kong!
