Newcastle v Everton

Except Liverpool of course!

But this is another fixture that has been, by and large, dreadful for us over the years.

We've taken some right beatings up there, the most memorable (or forgettable) being the 2-6 gubbing we took in 2001-02.

I was actually on my way to Rockfield Studios in Wales to see Delays as they were recording their debut album there.

Having listened to the first half in the car on the way I got there just in time to see our second half capitulation.

And I then spent the rest of the day listening to them record the same line of the same song (Nearer than Heaven for anyone who's still reading) about three hundred times.

Anyway, that's enough name-dropping and stuff, back to the game…

The last time we beat them up there was back in 2000/01 season when an 80th minute close range goal from Kevin Campbell was enough to take the points.

And the only other time we've won up there was in 1998/99 when, another two goals from Kevin Campbell and a belter from Scott Gemmill gave us an unlikely 3-1 win.

Everyone went up there in high spirits last season as we went up there having won six and drawn one (bloody Wigan!) of our last seven games.

Newcatle, on the other hand were in some indifferent form but two goals from Nolberto Solano gave them all three points.

The two teams meet in similar circumstances this season as we've been mustard and they have been patchy, winning away at West Ham a week after they were beaten at home by Fulham.

As far as team news goes, Joseph Yobo will face a late fitness test but, apart from that, the team looks likely to be unchanged from the one that drew against Wigan.

For them, the men to watch are clearly O Martins and Damien Duff and our defence will have to be right on top of their game to contain them.

But the good news for Everton is that Titus Bramble looks set to return to Newcastle's staring eleven…so that should make Andy Johnson's sixth goal in as many games a lot more attainable!
