Ref Watch...Uriah Rennie

Last updated : 16 November 2006 By Les Roberts

Whether or not you like the way he referees, you cannot ignore the fact

that we do well when Rennie is the ref!

The last time we were beaten with Mr Rennie in the middle was on Boxing

Day 2001 when last goals from Giggs and van Nistelrooy secured a 2-0 win

for Man United at Goodison.

Since then he has refereed seven Everton matches and we have won five

and drawn two.

One of those draws was this season's stalemate at Ewood Park when he was

guilty of turning down a penalty appeal from Andy Johnson…but then that's a criticism you could level at most Premiership referees this season!

Probably the most memorable Everton match he refereed was 2-1 win over

Arsenal in 2003/04 when ‘he whose name cannot be mentioned' netted that

goal and the commentator on Match of the Day said "Remember the name…"

Well the little bastard made sure we couldn't forget it but not in the
way we'd hoped!

Uriah Rennie also took charge of the Portsmouth game that season when we won 2-1
and the fat lad somehow stayed on the pitch after pushing over a Pompey player.

He was on his way to the changing rooms when Rennie called him back and

issued him with a yellow instead of the anticipated red.

Is he growing on you yet..?

Last season he officiated in our 3-1 home wins over Charlton and Fulham.

Since 2004/05 he has taken charge of five Everton games, we've won four,
drawn one and had eight players booked.

Unfortunately, Bolton also have a reasonable record when Mr Rennie is in

charge.

He has refereed seven Bolton matches since 2004/05 and the Trotters have

won five, drawn one, lost one and had nine players booked.

The last Bolton match he refereed was this season's 1-0 win at Portsmouth, which
ended Pompey's unbeaten start to the campaign.

But hopefully he'll be a homer on Saturday and we can avoid a repeat of
last season's horror show against Bolton!
