African aggro!

Which has not pleased, the South Africa head coach, Carlos Alberto Parreira one bit!

The Springbok's gaffer, who sounds like a Brazilian hair care manufacturer, has asked FIFA to intervene and, if they do, they could stop Pienaar playing on Tuesday and order him to join his national squad immediately.

And there is no way that FIFA are going to upset an African nation given Sepp Blatter's, er, relationship with a host of African countries.

Moyes has invoked FIFA's 14-day-rule, which states that club's do not have to release players for international duty until 14 days before a fixture.

But there is some debate as to whether the rule states that a player must be released 14 days before a team's first fixture or the opening game of the tournament.

The tournament begins on January 20th but South Africa's opening game is not until the 23rd, so the few extra days make all the difference.

Moyes has said of the stand-off with the South African FA: "South Africa are unhappy, I have spoken with (South Africa manager) Carlos Alberto Parreira and I understand his argument fully, but I have to fight for Everton and we need to keep our best players.

He added: "As far as I see it, they play their first game on the 23rd, our game is the eighth so that is 15 days and Steven Pienaar will stay and play for us unless we are told differently."

"He plays on the 23rd and as far as I am concerned that makes him available to play for Everton on the eighth."

Though Moyes was hoping for some common sense to prevail and the situation to be sorted amicably, as with the Nigerian FA, it looks like the South African FA are going to stand firm and may even seek sanctions against the club or the player or, knowing our luck, both!
