Moyes who is out of contract in the summer after 11 years of management at the blues, has yet to decide whether he will sign a new contract. The Toffee?s chairman Bill Kenwright is determined to convince Moyes to continue his reign at the club after gaining them Champions League, European and FA Cup final football in his tenancy on Merseyside.
In an interview with France Football Moyes explained how he: ?Always had the hope of being a coach abroad. If I had the choice I would probably go to Germany.? This has added to the concerns of Everton fans as Moyes has previously been linked with taking over the realm from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, along with the Scottish national team job.
Moyes is acknowledged for the tremendous job he?s done at Everton, making them consistent European football contenders on such limited resources available to him. Everton?s fortune prior to Moyes? arrival from Preston North End was not filled with joy, as Walter Smith endured three bottom half finishes before getting the sack in 2002. When Moyes galvanised the blues to a 7th place finish in his first season, this signalled the Scots intent for his time at Everton and gave the fans something to cheer about. Something they hadn?t had since 1995?s FA cup triumph.
The Daily Mail reported that: ?Roberto Martinez will be top of the list to replace David Moyes.? The Wigan manager turned down the opportunity to manage city rivals Liverpool last season. It?s also thought that Chelsea are interested in the Spaniard, as they look to terminate Rafa Benitez? contract in the summer according to @indykaila (Freelance Journalist) who tweeted: ?Ben?tez has been told by #CFC that he can talk to other clubs as #CFC won't renew current contract.?
Martinez is renowned for his ethos and for a struggling bottom half team, Wigan have consistently enforced his Spanish style of football. His link to the job at Goodison Park has sparked mixed reviews from Evertonians as @alexglover1995 tweeted that he: ?Wouldn?t be over the moon, has made no improvement with Wigan at all despite operating on a budget that higher than Moyes gets.? On the other hand Nick Willows said: ?I honestly don?t think there?s any better to replace him. It?s going to go to someone unproven. Not ideal.?
David Moyes has undoubtedly steadied the ship at Everton Football Club after a period of instability in the late 90?s. His relationship with Chairman Bill Kenwright has enabled him to control every minor detail from top to bottom at the club. However with Moyes? relative success in the limelight, the mixture of interest from other clubs and the temptation of new challenges and silverware could be too much for him to resist.
