Drenthe hails Baines quality

The on-loan Real Madrid star has been used on both flanks since his arrival in August but he feels at his best in front of Baines.

"At the moment I am playing with one of the best left-backs in the world. Leighton has really good qualities," said the Dutchman. "We had a good relationship right from the beginning and that is really important. He can understand me and I can understand him - I am really happy to play with someone like that."

He added: "It is important that when I am on the pitch I play and fight for the team.

"The gaffer gave me some jobs to do (in Saturday's win over Wolves), to help Bainesy.

"I played okay, I feel I can do better and be more important for the team. I am not disappointed - I played a good game and we won but I can do more."

Drenthe said the win over Wolves - only the second in seven league matches - had restored some much-needed confidence within the squad.

"I think when you win games the confidence comes back and the players are feeling that now," he told evertontv.

"Some players need more confidence than others but you always have to play as a team. We did that against Wolves and hopefully we can do that in the next game (at Bolton on Saturday) and get another result.

"It is going to come. We are going to get more points. We have a really good team and we are capable of doing better."
