MATCH PREVIEW

Following a week of unparalleled drama in the Liverpool boardroom, attention returns to on-field matters as Goodison Park hosts the 214th Merseyside derby.

I know how frustrated the fans have been with what has been going on and I can understand their feelings... But we've all suffered in this, especially the supporters, and now it's time for us all to pull together and help move the club forward

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard

A look at the Premier League table makes uncomfortable reading for both clubs, and they meet on Sunday with more than just local pride at stake. Liverpool have made their worst start to a top-flight campaign since 1953/54 - a season that ended in relegation.

Fans chanted for manager Roy Hodgson to be replaced during the Reds' last match, a dismal 2-1 home defeat to newly promoted Blackpool, and the former Fulham boss has admitted he doesn't know how long it will take before his methods start to bear fruit.

Goals remain a major concern and Hodgson will be praying for the return to form of striker Fernando Torres, who has spent the two-week international break recovering from an adductor strain.

Things are scarcely better at Everton, who finally registered their first win of the season at Birmingham last time out but remain without a win at Goodison. It is four years since David Moyes's side enjoyed a league victory in this derby, and Toffees fans will be relishing the opportunity to end that sequence while inflicting more gloom on their Merseyside neighbours.
