Mikel Arteta was also injured in the same game while Jack Rodwell and Marouane Fellaini are still sidelined. Manager David Moyes told the Everton website: "Leon Osman has a bad ankle injury which will keep him out for four to six weeks which is a real blow."
Everton will also be without Steven Pienaar for Saturday's game at Tottenham, while Louis Saha and Victor Anichebe are the Blues' other longer term absentees in another season blighted by injuries.
"There's no getting away from it we have another bad set of injuries like we had last year. Hopefully they will not be as bad as that in terms of the length of time the players will be missing for," added Moyes.
