Skipper Wise?

Phil Neville, touted by many to be the Blues new captain, has been given the vice-captaincy.

And Neville will probably skipper the side against Watford as Weir is unlikely to recover from the groin strain that kept him out of Saturday's defeat to Athletic Bilbao.

It certainly is a surprising move by Moyes as, following the signing of Lescott, many expect that Weir's first team outings will be limited next season.

But maybe it's just a mark of respect for the fella as he's given good service to the club and Moyes didn't want to, effectively, strip him of the captaincy while he was still part of the first team set up.

In other news, the latest installment of the Andy van der Meyde saga is that the errant winger is on his final warning and Moyes will not tolerate any more misdemeanours.

The manager stated: "We like players to enjoy themselves here and we make sure they do. But it's at the right time and when it suits Everton."

He added: "That's why you have a contract and why you agree to club rules. You agree to the things expected of a professional footballer. If Andy doesn't fit into that, I'm sorry, but it won't work for him."

Which is Moyes effectively telling the Dutchman that he doesn't care how cheap the ale is in Slater's, there's to be no bevvying for a couple of days before matches. Which is fair enough really!

van der Meyde's response has been a vow to work hard in training and focus on playing for Everton every week.

He's even said that, after Saturday's brief run-out, he feels 200 per cent…so we should see him play about 14 games for us next season then?!
