Everton have secured a refinancing plan with the Allied Irish Bank that should give Smith around £10m to spend before the end of the season, although the full details of the package have not been released to the press.

The move could open the way for a bid for Brighton's highly-rated striker Bobby Zamora, who Smith has been watching for some time. Smith, meanwhile, will look to sign Jesper Blomqvist on a long-term deal if the Swede continues his early promise at Goodison Park.
