Yobo is go!

In short, he said he's going to sign a new deal with the Blues by the end of the week.

Apparently he'd made his mind up before the end of the season but he says that (and I quote, ahem): "I just did not want to rush into making any public statements. I wanted to focus on my football and do well for Everton."

Yobo also gave the obligatory mention to the fans in making his decision to stay as he said: "Everybody here has been great, from the chairman, the manager to the fans. It was hard for me to think about leaving, even though the thought crossed my mind. But I am happy here and if all goes well, I intend to see out my career here."

Surprisingly, there was no mention for the tea lady though!

So it looks like the speculation that he was waiting, expectantly, by the phone for a call off Arsene "Of course Walcott's good enough *sniggers*" Wenger, was nothing more than wild conjecture.

It still seemed quite feasible though!

So, with the new deals for Stubbs and Weir and the signing of Lescott, the back four should be in pretty good shape next season.

In other news, the only pre-season match pencilled in for Goodison is Howard Kendal's testimonial against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday August 12th.

After failing to land the Barcelona job the year before, the Dome eventually bailed in 1987 as the lure of the sun, sangria and...er...European football that the Basque club could offer him, proved too much.

And everything else began to fall apart shortly afterwards.

No criticism can really be levelled at Howard as he left us as League Champions but, despite his best efforts, Colin Harvey just could not live up to the weight of the expectation placed upon him.

...But you all knew that anyway....

And, just one final thing, all this stuff about Ronaldo. Could the whole Rooney thing be the most cynical bit of transfer inducement ever seen?

He'd already been making noises about going to Real Madrid but Man United made it clear that they weren't selling. So what better way to make sure you get your move than make your position completely untenable?

I know it all sounds a bit convoluted but would anythnig to do with player transfers surprise anyone anymore?

And, if it was the case, it would certainly raise a wry smile at this end.

It's terrible when a richer club comes in to take one of your most prized youngsters isn't it United fans?!

Enjoy the sunshine folks!
